Mezzo-soprano Grace Chan impresses both critics and audiences alike with her her soulful musical sensitivity musical and strong stage presence. She combines her rich vocal colour with her infectious passion to create performances that bring together the dramatic and the musical soul. Grace has been hailed by press critics across Canada for her numerous outstanding performances across the nation. Her televised documentary and her voice have been aired in two continents.

Grace was highly acclaimed by Toronto critics for her creation of the role of Ama in “Iron Road“, a world premier presentation of Tapestry New Opera Works.  She has also garnered excellent reviews from national critics in her Stratford Festival debut -a lead role as Bloody Mary in the sold-out musical, “South Pacific“, with her usual no-hold-barred style.  She also starred in Stratford’s second musical production of “Oliver”. Her other roles have included Alisa in “Lucia di Lammermoor”, Gertrude in  “Romeo et Juliette”, La Principessa in Puccini’s “Suor Angelica”, the witch in Humperdinck’s “Hansel and Gretel”, Helene in Hindemith’s “Hin und Zuruck”, Baba in Menotti’s  “The Medium”, Ruth in “Pirates of Penzance”, The Third Lady in Mozart’s “Die Zauberflöte, and Ulrica in Verdi’s “Un Ballo in Maschera”.

Equally at home with Oratorios and Concert repertoire, Grace is also a much sought after soloist.  She has participated in B, the International Bamboo Organ Festival, the Vancouver Chamber Music Festival and the Début Series where she made her radio broadcast debut with the Canadian Broadcasting Company (CBC).  She regularly appears in recitals in Canada, the United States and in Asia, performing new works and traditional song repertoires in their original languages. She has represented Canada and has performed for international dignitaries, actively pursuing collaborative experiments with forms and genres that cater to modern audiences.  Her collaborative projects include a theatrical-song project with Victoria-based Puente Theatre and Belfry Theatre, plus numerous commission projects with composers and poets.

She has a Bachelor and Masters of Music from the University of British Columbia (UBC)  with further Private training in  New York, and Vienna. Grace is the recipient of numerous awards, among them first place winner in the West Coast Opera Competition. She performs extensively on opera stages and concert halls, not only in Canada, but also in Asia and Europe.  In Vancouver she has performed on the main stages of the Vancouver Opera, the Burnaby Lyric Opera, Viva Musica, with the Vancouver Symphony, Vancouver Recital Society and the Sinfonia among others.

Choral experiences include many church choirs (both as conductor and singer), and she was a member of the world-renowned chamber ensemble – the Vancouver Chamber Choir.

Grace is a dynamic artist who is always actively pursuing collaborative pieces in search of different forms, genres and vocal styles to appeal to the modern audience. As a flexible artist, Grace’s repertoire includes new opera works, oratorio, masses, song cycles and orchestral lieder as well as a variety of chamber works and world music including soul music and musicals. This accomplished singer is at ease singing in over 8 languages.

Prior to her emigration to Canada and a professional singing career, Dr. Grace was an Optometrist in Asia.

Preferring the West Coast lifestyle, she returns to settle in Vancouver and balances an active performing career with being a teacher, clinician, choral trainer, adjudicator and conductor. Grace is former Affiliate Professor of Voice at the Trinity Western University and now teaches in a busy private Studio. She brings stage performance, multi-voice teacher (internationally) pedagogies, the science of the voice and acoustics, the healing arts, philosophy and history into her methodology.

Grace不仅对宗教剧和音乐剧的演出技艺精湛，而且也致力于对独唱的追求。她曾经在温哥华音乐节，国际风琴节，温哥华室内音乐节有过精彩的演出，同时加拿大广播公司对她的首次登台表演做了系列报道。她还经常在美国、加拿大和亚洲举办个人演唱会，表演新的作品以及用原声语言演唱传统歌曲。Grace曾经代表加拿大为世界各地的国际政要演出。，她还在温哥华歌剧节和the Burnaby Lyric Opera，Viva Music，Vancouver Symphony，Vancouver Recital Society，Sinfonia 和其他节日中参加过演出。
